The Farm in Fall
We're back on the farm for a while, so I decided to take a walk while it was sunny and dry earlier this week.
Here's a peek of our newest almond orchard during this time of year...
The leaves are still holding on!
As the days get shorter and colder, the trees will enter dormancy. This is when the new growth on the trees goes into rest. This prevents the buds from emerging too early if the weather gets a little warm and also keeps them resistant to freezing and other stresses.
The trees need between 300 to 600 chilling hours (below 45 degrees), before they will respond to warmer temperatures and begin growing again.

Found the alpacas... they are so silly!
Here comes Ticki....
She might seem friendly, but don't get too close... She might spit!
And here's Jessy the farm dog. She stays away from the alpacas...they like to chase her. But she loves chasing critters, too! Looks like she found one!

And this is the view from the farm today! We got some much needed rain! :)
