My shop will be opening soon!
Here’s a little peek and insight into what I have been working on, and the new products I will be releasing!
My daughter has started school full time, which means I now have a lot more time to create! For the last year, I have been learning a vintage style of machine embroidery and working on leather crafting, which both have me SO excited!
Vintage Machine Embroidery
I’m using a machine modeled after Singer’s Chainstitch Sewing Machines, that were created in the early 1900s, which became especially popular during the 1950’s when they were used to create intricately designed suits for country musicians including Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and even, Elvis Presley! The machine produces a chainstitch which uses one thread (no bobbin) and a hand crank to control the direction of the stitch and create the embroidered designs.
I love how versatile this machine is… it really is limitless in what I can create. I am starting out by making and selling wall hangings, and will be progressing to home goods, clothing, and western wear as I gain more experience with this machine.
Leather Craft
I have also been honing my leather craft. I’ve made wallets and tote bags and learned so much about leather that I never knew I didn’t know! Did you know there are 2 main ways of tanning leather? Chrome tanned and Vegetable tanned leather. I use both traditional and unconventional techniques with vegetable tanned leather and linen thread. For my leather totes, I cut and punch the stitching holes by hand, and use my laser to cut out some of the smaller items, like wallets. I always sew them by hand using a traditional saddle stitch using 2 needles and something called a stitching pony!
Currently,
I am working on creating an inventory of leather totes, wallets, embroidered goods (such as the ABC Banners above) and more!
I am waiting impatiently for my new materials to arrive… quality cotton threads for my embroidery, vegetable tanned leather, and natural linen thread for leather stitching, so I can fully realize these designs that I have planned!
What’s next?
After I’ve created enough for an inventory, I will be launching my online store, and applying to makers festivals, and local farmers markets. I just can’t wait to make these things and release them for sale!
I feel like everything is coming together with my business… the farmer’s daughter & country music lover in me is loving that these crafts that I’ve been developing are so connected to these roots of mine.
